Yes we are back again from our trip to Paris, visiting Maison & Objet and having one day to visit some shops and seeing a little bit of Paris.

We stayed in the lovely area of Le Marais and had a great time, enjoying all the little shops and nice restaurants. Above a little highlight of Paris and Maison & Objet... Being really inspired by some new and beautiful things I will bring you of course more about this next coming weeks.

Lodge hotel

Last week we stayed for a night a lodge hotel in Hasselt called De Groene Hendrickx.

The hotel is situated in the middle of the centre of Hasselt. The hotel is beautiful combination of modern and authentic elements like the brick walls and ceilings and the old wooden beams. A warm and cosy restaurant where you can sit by the fireplace with a view on the streets of Hasselt. The hotel has different theme rooms, nicely decorated with eye for little details, simplicity and it's own sphere.

We had a great time at this wonderful hotel with nice restaurants just around the corner. A place to remember when you want to visit Belgium.

The Waterhouse hotel

The Waterhouse hotel is definitely a place to visit when you are Shanghai. The hotel is a four-story, 19-room boutique hotel built into an existing Japanese Army headquarters building from the 1930's. The Chinese architects NHDRO have transformed this building within the concept of a clear contrast of what is old and new.

Lots of concrete and brick walls and a new Corten steel extension on the roof. NHDRO was also responsible for the design of the hotel's interior, which is expressed through both a blurring of the interior and exterior and between public and private spaces.

A stunning and beautiful hotel with a great design and interior pieces, a great use of materials, industrial and modern creating an inviting space...

Muffins

Yesterday I visited Mobilia Woonstudio in Amsterdam for an interior project I am currently working on. How lucky for me that there just arrived a lot of new products in the shop.

These lights immediately got my attention. The Muffin Lamp combines the use of hand-blown glass with oak wood as its base and is designed by Dan Yeffet and Lucie Koldova for Brokis.

The lamp can be hung from the ceiling, placed on its wooden base, or can be set on its glass fixture.

Beautiful and serene colors and materials...Timeless and special...

Welcome 2012....I am back again after having some time off with a little personal post for you.

Last month was a quite busy one...celebrating the Dutch Sinterklaas, our son's 2nd birthday and ofcourse Christmas and New Year.

A little impression from our home this last month...and some Christmas left overs that I will keep in our home a little bit longer, because I just like them too much to hide away already :)

This year will be a year with again lots of ideas, plans, inspiration and new things from April & May for you all.

Femke Roefs

I recently came across the work of Femke Roefs, who studied at the Design Academie Eindhoven and has some beautiful work of her own.

The Kumi vases are made of empty jars of glass transformed into a vase. So beautiful and delicate...

Her latest work are 3D printed buttons made from renewable resources in collaboration with Leoni Werle. And not only her work is impressive but also her material studies wax and colors & concrete.

There is even more on her website with some beautiful photography as well. A very talented person with some really beautiful work. The Kumi vases are on my wishlist from now on :)

Now she also decided to do some furniture making together with her boyfriend. Together they design and create simple and timeless furniture pieces. Every week new furniture pieces are popping up around their house and they are making plans to sell them. Hotel The Exchange is an initiative by LLoyd Hotel and the cultural embassy Amsterdam. It is a hotel with a special love of fashion. Students of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute dressed the rooms like models on the catwalk. As a visitor you sleep in fashion and wake up in style...The result is a hotel where architecture meets fashion.

The hotel is located in three buildings. In the same building there is a 230 m2 contemporary department store Options! and a restaurant Stock.

The light we use in our houses is very static, almost like it's something that's frozen.

But light is not something that is static, it lives.

Light is movement, it has its own rhythm.

Susanne designed a lamp with its own rhythm.

The user decides the rhythm of the lamp by moving the lamp up and down,

the layers mingle, the light get's diffuse and the layers turn into a game of colours.

The last part for now in my ceramics series: Elephant ceramics by Michele Michaels. Michele Michaels designs and makes porcelain and stoneware ceramics by hand. Several years ago Michele opened a prop house in Manhattan specializing in tabletop items for photo shoots. In her search to find pieces of particular shapes and colors, she decided to design and hand-make her own.

Working with organic shapes, Michele incorporates the texture of traditional homespun linen into the clay. She takes a painterly approach to glazing each piece by dripping, pouring and brushing. Each one of her piece has it's own unique shape and color.

Wonderful, wonderful pieces of ceramic which I would love to have sometimes. For now all the items are sold out but in Michele hopes to come with a new collection next fall. Keeping our fingers crossed and very curious what new designs she will make.

The family house of a Danish architect

This is the family home of Danish architect Jonas Bjerre-poulsen, a principal at Norm-Architecture (one of my favorite architect studio).

The house is a traditional fishing cottage turned into a modern timeless space. There is created a home where there is a connection between indoors and outdoors. The most important thing for Jonas was to create more light and space, cleaner lines and a better connection between the rooms.

This house looks wonderful with indeed lots of light and space. For me this home really is a timeless space, a modern feel and some nice old details. Love the wooden roof framework in the bedroom and those very very nice build in cabinets in the kitchen.

ceramics: Étude Géométrique

Étude Géométrique is a ceramics collection by Ann van Hoey for Serax. A collection of basic forms. Ann came up with the idea of folding thin sheets of clay when she saw origami artists at work in Japan. The collection grew from a a bowl with four corners and the logical next step was the confrontation between the circle and the triangle.

I think the geometrics are really stunning when looking at the pictures. Just like my post last week this is also a piece of art on your table and you can really make some beautiful table settings with this collection. It is almost like filling an empty canvas with forms, colors and food to make up your own beautiful piece of art and composition.

The first part of a series I will be showing here about some beautiful and special ceramic collections.

Perfect Imperfection by Roos van de Velde for Serax is a porcelain range that is a symbol of innovation in several ways. The collection is produced where the imperfection, defectiveness and coincidence are given the chance to play their part during the production process. The collection is like balancing on a thin wire.

Love the thin look of all the parts and how they are perfectly imperfect together. I can see a table setting with this whole collection...beautiful and poetic. A little story on the table....100% love!

String Gardens

The story behind String Gardens starts 3 years ago. Fedor van der Valk, the designer of String Garden, has always had a love for seeds, plants and trees. He started experimenting with 3D crocheting and covered it with several materials like clay, earth and grasses. After that he tried this technique with small room- and garden plants. The result is String Garden, hanging plants who seem to be floating in the air.

Love this technique and it feels somehow a bit poetic to me. A beautiful alternative way to have plants.

The collection of Dutch bag designer Elvira Vroomen is characterised by pure forms, lush prints and clean material use, mostly felt and genuine leather. The bags and purses have screenprinted and lasercut drawings and bright-coloured lining that forms an eye-catching contrast.

I discovered this brand when visiting a fair and loved the bag in the second image. A nice bag that also fits around your shoulder. Beautiful, easy and with style!

Inspired by this clean office space. My work space will never look so clean and tidy as this but at this point I am cleaning up my workspace and doing some little re-styling. Painting my table white and I am planning to add a nice custom made piece of furniture to store my books and add some personal stuff.

This workspace definitely has my 100% love!
